One of the defensive leaders, both in terms of experience and production. Has outstanding strength and endurance. Is physically one of the most gifted athletes at UNC. Played very well last year, especially considering it was his first season at this level and he was playing tackle for the first time in his life. Played defensive end in high school and junior college. Leads by example. Very quick for a tackle. By far is the most experienced defensive lineman on the squad.
1997 • Junior Season
Played in all 11 regular-season games and the Las Vegas Bowl and made nine starts at defensive tackle. Had a season-high nine tackles against Georgia Tech. Had five primary tackles against Stanford, Pittsburgh and Duke. Made 7.5 tackles for losses, including 3.5 quarterback sacks for 18 yards. Had 2.5 sacks against Stanford and a sack for nine yards against NC State. Finished the year with 57 tackles. Had four tackles against San Diego State in the Las Vegas Bowl. Saw action on 509 downs with 59 against Virginia.
Gulf Coast Junior College/Northern High School
Transferred to Carolina from Gulf Coast Junior College in Mississippi. Attended high school at Northern High in Durham. Was an all-state, all-conference and all-area selection at Northern. Was Most Valuable Defensive Player in the Shrine Bowl his senior year at Northern. Was the Defensive MVP of the state championship game as a junior and senior. Led Northern to a 15-0 record and state title as a senior.
Personal
Born Sherrod Trevon Peace on Oct. 24, 1974. Majoring in physical education. Favorite pro team is the San Francisco 49ers. Favorite athletes are Michael Jordan and Stone Cold Steve Austin. Greatest athletic achievement was making first team All-America in junior college. The people who have influenced him the most are his parents, his best friend, Lamont Fletcher, and his girlfriend, Leigh Anne. Other favorite sport is bodybuilding. Says the word that best describes him is "alligator." Hobbies are hydraulic cars.
