General: One of the top defensemen in the nation...named a 2001 preseason third team All-America selection by Face-Off Yearbook...one of the team’s four captains during the 2001 season.
2000 Season: Named to the All-Atlantic Coast Conference Team on defense last season...consistently one of the top defenders in the nation...started 12 games and led the Tar Heels in takeaways with 60...was also among the team leaders with 52 ground balls...scored against Duke and had two assists in the ACC Tournament against Virginia...also won five faceoffs against UVa and had a career high 11 ground balls and six takeaways...had eight takeaways against Hofstra and seven against Butler.
1999 Season: Had another brilliant year for the Tar Heels as a sophomore...developed into one of the top defensive midfielders in the nation...was named the team’s most improved player and also won the ground ball award by leading the Tar Heels in ground balls with 71...also led the team in takeaways with 47...scored his first career goal against Air Force and recorded assists against Navy, Penn and Duke...top ground ball game was nine against Delaware...had a season-high five takeaways against Denver, Delaware and Loyola...had a minimum of three ground balls in 14 of 15 Tar Heel games.
1998 Season: Played in all 15 Tar Heel games...finished with 34 ground balls...a strong ACC performer, he had nearly one-third of his ground balls in the Heels’ five ACC games.
Prep: Was a four-year varsity letterman in lacrosse, wrestling and football at Baldwin High School...captained all three teams as a senior...was a 1996 Empire State “Team Long Island” Lacrosse Player...named athlete of the year at Baldwin High School in 1997...in lacrosse, he was selected All-County and high school All-America...in football, he led the team in rushing his junior and senior years as a tailback...he was also selected all-county on the gridiron...as a grappler, he advanced to the county wrestling championships as a sophomore (171 pounds) and senior (190 pounds).
