AT CAROLINA
Will compete for starting honors at point guard • Shared point guard duties as a freshman primarily with Ronald Curry • Averaged almost 11 minutes per game as a freshman • Must improve defensively and in attacking the defenses to grab hold of the starting job • Showed the ability to hit the three-point shot.
FRESHMAN SEASON (2000-01)
Became the 16th Tar Heel to start in his first game as a freshmen since first-year players became eligible to play in 1972-73 • Other UNC players to do this include Phil Ford, Mike O’Koren, James Worthy, Michael Jordan, Kenny Smith, J.R. Reid, Pete Chilcutt, Rick Fox, Vince Carter, Antawn Jamison, Ed Cota, Brendan Haywood, Jason Capel, Kris Lang and Joseph Forte • Had 44 assists and 33 turnovers • Had a season-high four assists on two occasions (at Appalachian State and against Clemson in Chapel Hill) • Nailed three three-pointers at Appalachian State • Strong second-half at UCLA was a factor in Carolina’s road win • Had three assists and no turnovers and played good defense against the Bruins • Hit a key three-pointer in the win at Maryland • Did not score but played very poised for 15 minutes at Duke after Ronald Curry got in early foul trouble, posting three assists and two turnovers • Registered season highs in minutes played, points and rebounds against Georgia Tech on Feb. 3 • Scored 10 points, had five rebounds in 28 minutes in the win over the Yellow Jackets that moved Carolina into the No. 1 ranking in the nation • Did not play in the loss at Clemson due to a sprained left ankle • Scored 10 of his 15 field goal attempts from three-point range • Shot 75 percent from the free throw line, although he attempted free throws in just three games • Had three steals in the win over Texas A&M.
