Derek Henson has great speed and athleticism.
I think he's still learning the intricacies of the game.
In fall ball, we put him in the defensive midfield and he's doing a good job figuring things out at that end.
We're trying to have him utilize his speed and athleticism to his strengths and those are clearing the ball and ground balls.
General: A 6-0, 185-pound midfielder from the Cincinnati area.
Prep: Graduated from William Mason High School where he was coached by Randy Hubbard...played both football for four years as a wide receiver and lacrosse for four years as a midfielder as a prepster...in his career he had 68 goals, 16 assists and 116 ground balls...as a senior, he was named a U.S. Lacrosse All-America...served as the lacrosse team captain his senior year...was the team's offensive player of the year in his final campaign when he scored 30 goals, passed for eight assists and scooped up 53 ground balls...during his junior year he had 32 goals and eight assists along with 63 ground balls...was a two-time adidas All-America selection and was named first-team All-Region twice as well as second-team All-State...was an honors student at Mason High and was named the winner of the school's English award...also ran track for a year as a sprinter.
Personal: Derek Avery Henson is the son of Del and Leytrice Henson...was born November 12, 1992 in Kingston, Pa....undeclared major...his father played football as a cornerback at Morgan State University.

Section #1 (Lacrosse Related)
1. The best thing about being a Tar Heel lacrosse player is I'm at a top tier university with amazing players and coaches.
2. My favorite thing about competing for Coach Breschi is that he is funny and relaxed but knows when to be serious and he makes the team feel like a family.
3. Since last year the aspects of my training I've worked on the most are my off hand and lacrosse IQ.
4. My best friend on another college lacrosse team is Ian Hammeran who plays for Wittenberg in Ohio.
5. My greatest strengths as a lacrosse player are my speed and quickness.
Section #2 (Derek's Interests)
1. Away from the lacrosse field and academic pursuits I like to spend time hanging with friends, listening to music and watching Netflix.
2. If I could compete in another sport at UNC it would be football.
3. The music act I'd most like to see in person is Drake.
4. The personal interest I have that might surprise my teammates is that I like to watch cartoons/anime.
Section #3 (Food and Beverage)
1. After a game at Fetzer Field, I'd like to see a tailgate spread that included quesadillas, pizza and sour candy of all kinds.
2. My favorite beverage is Mountain Dew LiveWire.
3. My favorite food made by a relative is my dad's chicken.
4. My favorite place to eat in Chapel Hill is Rams Head or Top of Lenoir.
5. My favorite guilty pleasure food wise is sour candy.

1. If I possessed the gift of time travel I'd like to go to the age of the Ninja and Samurai and train to become a ninja.
