Drew's played defensive midfield in fall ball and he did a terrific job down there.
He's physical, fast, very smart and plays hard.
He's got a good sound stick and his clearing ability is going to help us in the transition game as well.
General: A 6-0, 185-pound midfielder.
Prep: Hays played for coach Mike Torrelli at Fairport High School where he earned three varsity letters...finished his career with 76 goals and 52 assists for 128 points...as a senior he was the captain of the Fairport lacrosse team...that year he was named first-team New York All-Section V and a U.S. Lacrosse All-America...tapped for All-Greater Rochester and All-County Division I teams and Section V All-Tournament Team...had 28 goals and 31 assists for 59 points in his senior campaign...also had stellar junior campaign with 30 goals and 13 assists for 43 points and sophomore season with 18 goals and eight assists for 26 points...Fairport High School's 2011 senior athlete of the year...he finished third all-time in school history for career points by a midfielder...won three team awards, including the prestigious "Jim Nowak Be A Hero" accolade...was selected to play in the 2010 Empire State Games and Under Armour Underclassmen Games...received an invitation to try out for the U.S. Team competing in the 2012 U19 World Championships...as a senior and a sophomore, he led Fairport to the Section V Class A finals in lacrosse...in 2010, Fairport won the Section V title and reached the state finals before losing to West Islip, a team then led by current Tar Heel teammate Nicky Galasso...also lettered three times in soccer as a midfielder and twice in ice hockey as a defenseman...led the soccer team to a pair of Section V titles and he was captain of the squad as a senior...helped lead soccer team to two section V championships and the 2009 NY state quarterfinals...led hockey squad to sectional championship and NY state semifinals.
Personal: Andrew Terence Flynn Hays is the son of Andy and Diane Hays...was born in Santa Barbara, Calif., on December 10, 1992...undeclared major...his father played lacrosse at Princeton.

Section #1 (Lacrosse Related)
1. The best thing about being a Tar Heel lacrosse player is the family atmosphere and baby blue.
2. My favorite thing about competing for Coach Breschi is how he stresses family first.
3. Since last year the aspect of my training I've worked on the most is shooting on the run.
4. My best friend on another college lacrosse team is James Manilla (Ithaca).
5. My greatest strength as a lacrosse player is communication.
Section #2 (Drew's Interests)
1. Away from the lacrosse field and academic pursuits I like to spend time downloading music and hanging out with Jake Bailey.
2. The best movie I've seen recently is The Taking of Pelham 123.
3. If I could compete in another sport at UNC it would be basketball.
4. The music act I'd most like to see in person is Pretty Lights.
Section #3 (Food and Beverage)
1. After a game at Fetzer Field, I'd like to see a tailgate spread that included chocolate chip cookies and pulled pork.
2. My favorite beverage is blue Powerade.
3. My favorite foods made by a relative are steak and mashed potatoes.
4. My favorite place to eat in Chapel Hill is Top of the Hill.
5. My favorite guilty pleasure food wise is an Oreo milkshake.
Section #4 (Digging Into Drew's Personality)
1. If I possessed the gift of time travel I'd like to go back to the 90s.
2. My most prized personal possession is my iPhone.
3. If I could go to dinner with a famous person it would be Jay-Z.
4. My dream job is coaching lacrosse on the West Coast.
