Troy Trygstad

- Assistant Coach (Cross Country/Distance)
Troy Trygstad is in his fifth year as an assistant coach working with Tar Heel middle distance and distance runners. This also marks his fourth season with the cross country program.
Trygstad came to UNC after being named a Verizon Academic All-American at Drake University, where he participated in the 1999 NCAA indoor track and field championships. He was the Missouri Valley Conference Most Outstanding Male Track Athlete in 1999.
In 2002, Trygstad received his Doctor of Pharmacy degree as well as a Masters of Business Administration from Drake University. He also earned a Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Policy and Evaluative Sciences from the University of North Carolina in 2006.
He is Level II USA Track and Field certified in the distance events.
Trygstad is married to the former Peggy Bakalyar, and the two currently reside in Chapel Hill, N.C.
