Caleb Kruege joined the UNC women’s basketball program in September of 2020 as the Tar Heels’ strength and conditioning coach.
Krueger came to Chapel Hill from the University of Kansas, where he worked with both the women’s and men’s basketball teams. He directs, designs and implements all strength and conditioning programming for the Carolina women’s basketball team.
“Caleb brings an incredible knowledge base, a relentless passion for the development of the athlete, and a proven ability to be a great teammate," UNC coach Courtney Banghart said upon his hiring. "His thoughtful programming will ensure the synergy required for the whole-body development of our players. Simply put, we are committed to hiring for impact here, and Caleb will make a huge one for us.”
During his two years at the University of Kansas, Krueger worked with a number of Jayhawk programs, most notably the women’s and men’s basketball teams. For the women’s team, he designed and implemented the strength and conditioning program. For the men’s team, he supported design and execution of the program.
While at Kansas, he earned a master’s degree in exercise science.
Prior to his time in Lawrence, he spent 10 months at his alma mater, Ottawa University in Ottawa, Kansas, leading and managing all aspects of the strength and conditioning programs for eight sports, including men’s basketball. From 2016-18, he worked as a performance coach for Kansas City Speed and Sport.
Krueger, a native of Wakefield, Kansas, graduated cum laude from Ottawa University in 2016, majoring in exercise science and earning Dean’s List honors. He competed in both basketball and track & field for the Braves.
“I am truly honored and blessed to become a part of such a historic program with a storied past,” Krueger said. “To say that I am excited to join Coach Banghart and her staff would be an understatement. Becoming part of a staff that is not only competitive and relentless when it comes to developing the student-athlete, but also collaborative and forward-thinking in how they do so was key for me when accepting this position. I am ecstatic to get started in Chapel Hill and begin building relationships with both players and staff and bring impact to our journey to a Final Four.”
