Penny Jernigan is entering her eighth year as a Tar Heel assistant coach. She is a 1992 graduate of Campbell University, where she attended on an academic scholarship. During her years at Campbell, Jernigan coached gymnastics in Raleigh. After graduating she served as the Level 10 and Elite girls' team coach at Gymcarolina Gymnastics Academy. She holds a national ranking as a Level 10 judge and serves as a balance beam and floor exercise coach for the Tar Heels.
