Tar Heels In Twelfth Place After First Round Of Carpet Capital Classic

DALTON, Ga. - Senior Max Harris and Junior Rob Simmons posted 73's to lead North Carolina in today's first round of the 1999 Carpet Capital Classic.
In team competition, North Carolina finished 12th out of 15 teams. The Tar Heels shot an opening round of 296, 17 shots behind tournament host and first round leader Georgia Tech. Four ACC rivals placed in the top five. Clemson placed second followed by Wake Forest, Florida and North Carolina State.
In individual play, Tar Heels Paul Daniel and Jay Degenhart followed Harris and Simmons with three-over 75's. Ned Murchinson shot a nine-over 81.
The second round of the tournament will continue Saturday. The event is being held at the Farm, a par 72 course with 6,906 total yardage.
