October 7, 1999 | Men's Basketball
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Carolina fans will get a rare opportunity to view two vintage ACC Men's Basketball Tournament games when ESPN Classic airs the 1982 and 1987 ACC title games on Sunday, Oct. 17, as part of its "North Carolina Mini-Marathon."
At 3:30 p.m. ET the cable network will replay Carolina's March 7, 1982, matchup with the Virginia Cavaliers. Watch as Michael Jordan, Sam Perkins and James Worthy lead the top-ranked and eventual national champion Tar Heels to a 47-45 victory over No. 2 Virginia in Greensboro.
At 6 p.m. ET ESPN Classic will then replay the 1987 ACC championship game that saw the Tar Heels square off with N.C. State for the league crown. Behind the strong play of Kenny Smith, Scott Williams and freshman J.R. Reid, the Tar Heels outlasted Maryland and an overtime game with Virginia to meet a tough Wolfpack squad looking for an upset.
