Seniors Play Final Game For Carolina

The following 17 Tar Heels will suit up in Carolina Blue for the final games of their college football careers Saturday. Each player will be recognized prior to Saturday's kickoff in Senior Day ceremonies.
Ryan Carfley (#57) has started every game at center this season for the Tar Heels and has 16 starts for his career. One of the leaders on the offensive line, he is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Carfley of Ridgewood, N.J.
Derrick DePriest (#33) has handled kickoffs for Carolina this year and is also the top back-up at punter. He was the starting punter in 1996 and has held on field goals and extra point tries the last three seasons. DePriest was named second team All-ACC in baseball in 1999 and led the nation is earned run average (1.71). He is the son of Mrs. Cheryl Thomas and Mr. Craig DePriest of Homestead, Fla.
Deon Dyer (#38) has started 30 games at fullback for Carolina. Dyer has career totals of 612 rushing yards and 10 TD's heading into the Duke game. Running backs coach Ken Mack says Dyer is the best blocking fullback he has ever coached. Dyer was named the Tar Heel's Most Outstanding Back in 1998 and was co-recipient of the Most Outstanding Special Team's Player award as a freshman. Dyer is the son of Mrs. Vivian Sinclair of Chesapeake, Va.
Kareem Ellis (#65) has started 10 games at offensive tackle for Carolina this year and made nine starts his junior year. Ellis also saw action in ten games his first two years. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Ellis of Jacksonville, N.C.
Mike Gimbol (#76), left offensive guard, has started 23 games for the Tar Heels including all 10 this season. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Gimbol of Doylestown, Pa.
ryan Griffin (#84) is a fourth-year walk-on for Carolina. He spent one season as the scout team quarterback and is now at tight end. Griffin is from Clinton, N.C., and is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Greg Griffin.
Greg Harris (#30) has started four games at wide receiver this season and has 115 yards receiving, which give him 206 yards for his career. Harris is the son of Ms. Marie Harris of Mebane, N.C.
Bryan Jones (#55) has started all 10 games at offensive guard this year as well as all 12 last season. He is from Valparaiso, Fla. And is the son of Mr. and Mrs. David Jones.
With 251 points in scoring, place-kicker Josh McGee (#37) is in third place in Carolina career scoring heading into the season's final game. McGee is the UNC leader in career field goals with 46 and holds the career scoring record for kickers. From Pearl, Miss., McGee is the son of Mr. and Mrs. James McGee.
Allen Mogridge (#75) has played in every game for the Tar Heels the last four seasons. He started every game this year at right offensive tackle and every game last year at tight end. The son of Mrs. Teresa Starkey, Mogridge is from Sevierville, Tenn.
Robert Nixon (#80) is an offensive tackle from New Orleans who has missed the past two seasons due to a broken ankle. He is the son of Mrs. Karen Nixon.
Durham, N.C.'s, Jason Peace (#19) has started seven games at wide receiver for the Tar Heels this season and is second on the team in receiving yards (345). He is also tied for the team lead with a 16.4 yards per reception average this year. Peace has career totals of 859 yards receiving and three TD's. He is the son of Mrs. Marva Peace and Mr. Larry Peace.
Sherrod Peace (#89) has started ten games at defensive tackle this season and has 19 starts as a Tar Heel. Peace has 88 tackles in his career heading into the Duke game. Peace is from Durham, N.C., and is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Peace.
Brian Schmitz (#23) is averaging 47.5 yards on 71 punts for Carolina this year, a figure that would set single-season UNC and Atlantic Coast Conference records. Schmitz is also second in the nation and first in the ACC this year in punting average. Schmitz averaged 44 yards of five punts in last year's Las Vegas Bowl and his 66-yard punt into the wind was a key play in the Tar Heel victory. Schmitz is the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Schmitz of Park Ridge, Ill.
Teto Simpson (#98), defensive end, has appeared in 41 games at Carolina and has 53 tackles in his career. He is from Greenville, N.C. and is the son of Ms. Daretha Mackey.
Cornerback T.J. Sutton (#45) is completing his fourth year as a Tar Heel. Sutton is a Morehead Scholar and a member of the ACC Honor Roll. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Williams of Kinston, N.C.
Shawn Woodard (#48) is a fifth-year senior linebacker who started two games this year and appeared in every game the last two years. Woodard has 35 tackles in his career including 29 this season. Woodard is from Wilson, N.C., and his guardian is Ms. Portia Sauls.
