Max Harris Ties For 20th Place At All-America Classic

EL PASO, Tex. -- University of North Carolina golfer Max Harris finished in a tie for 20th place at the 1999 Savane College All-America Golf Classic. Harris, a senior from Worthing, England, posted rounds of 75-76-76 for a 227 total. The 54-hole event was played at the El Paso Country Club, a par 71, 6,781-yard layout, and features 24 of the nation's top golfers.
Matt Kuchar of Georgia Tech defeated Andy Miller of Brigham Young on the third playoff hole after both players finished regulation play with five-under-par 208 totals. Clemson's John Engler and Texas' David Gossett finished one stroke back in a tie for third place with 209 totals. Derek Gillespie of Arizona and Ryan Vermeer of Kansas tied for fifth place at three-under 210.
Harris, a third-team All-America last year and two-time selection to the All-ACC team, has carded three top 11 finishes for the Tar Heels this fall. Harris captured the individual title of The Ridges Intercollegiate, the first tournament of the fall campaign, after firing a 211 total. He tied for eighth place at the Carpet Capital Classic and tied for 11th at the Golf World/Palmetto Dunes Collegiate.
