Jason Capel Live Chat CANCELLED
December 15, 1999 | Men's Basketball
Dec. 16, 1999
Due to technical difficulties, our scheduled chat with Jason Capel has been cancelled. We will attempt to set up another chat with Capel at a later date and time to be determined. STAY TUNED!
For Capel, basketball is a family affair. His older brother, Jeff, played at Duke from 1993-97 and his father, Jeff Sr., is the head coach at Old Dominion. Now a sophomore at UNC, Jason is making a name for himself as a versatile performer who can play the off-guard or either forward position.
Capel's freshman campaign was hampered by chronic back pain and a battle with mononucleosis. After undergoing back surgery in March to repair two herniated discs, he has returned strong in his sophomore season. At 12.7 points per game, he is one of five Tar Heels currently averaging in double figures. He is also UNC's leading rebounder at 6.8 boards per game.
Capel recently led the Tar Heels to victory in the Food Lion MVP Classic with a career-high 23 points and nine rebounds in the title game against UNLV. North Carolina's next game is vs. Miami (Fla.) in the Orange Bowl Basketball Classic (7 p.m. ET, ESPN).
