CHAPEL HILL --University of North Carolina sophomore forward/guard Michael Brooker underwent successful arthoroscopic surgery Thursday afternoon to remove torn cartilage in his left knee. Men's basketball trainer Marc Davis said the procedure went well and Brooker should be able to return to action in time for the Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament in early March.
Brooker injured his left knee Monday in practice while driving to the basket on a fast-break drill. In the spring of 1996, Brooker tore his left anterior cruciate ligament in a high school physical education class. He subsequently red-shirted his first year at Carolina in 1996-97.
The Sandersville, Ga., native scored 25 points, had eight assists and seven rebounds in 14 games this season. He scored a season-high 10 points in the opening game against Appalachian State.
