CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The Tar Heels completed their exhibition season Wednesday night with an 86-59 win over TTT Riga Latvia, and will tip off the regular season on Friday with a visit from Akron. Game time is 4 p.m. on Nov. 13 at Carmichael Auditorium.
In Wednesday's win, sophomore guard Juana Brown led all scorers with 20 points. Sophomore forward LaQuanda Barksdale contributed a strong all-around game with 16 points (including 2-of-3 from three-point range), 11 rebounds, five steals and three blocks. Senior Chanel Wright scored 11 points, all in the second half, to go with five rebounds. The Tar Heels were out-rebounded by Latvia, 50-45. "We weren't real sharp out there," UNC coach Sylvia Hatchell said. "We missed a lot of easy shots. We'll learn a lot from this game."
After the game with Akron, the Tar Heels will head for West Lafayette, Ind., where they'll face Kansas on Sunday. That game will be televised live by ESPN2 at 2 p.m.
