Barksdale Shines for USA Basketball Team

Following games against China and South Africa, the U.S. team is 2-0 in World University Games basketball play and North Carolina's LaQuanda Barksdale is averaging 15.5 points per game.
In the team's opening game, a 107-89 win over China on July 5 in Andratx, Spain, Barksdale led the U.S. in scoring with 15 points. In the first half, she was 4-for-4 from the field and hit both her free throw attempts. For the game, she was 5-for-9 from the field, 4-for-4 from the free throw line, and also added six rebounds.
"I didn't even realize I had made all my shots in the first half until someone mentioned it to me," Barksdale said. "I might have had that in my head in the second half and that's why I didn't shoot as well, but I'm glad we came out with the victory. That's all that matters."
In Tuesday's game in Calvia, Spain, the U.S. team set a World University Games scoring record with a 140-32 win over South Africa. With 15 points, Barksdale was one of eight players to score in double figures. She also added four rebounds and two steals.
The win over South Africa earned the U.S. team a spot in the medal round quarterfinals. On Wednesday at noon EDT, the U.S. team will play the Ukraine (2-0) to determine the first and second-place finishers from preliminary group B.
