U.S. Women's Basketball Tops Dominican Republic at Pan Am Games

WINNIPEG, Manitoba - The USA Basketball Women's Pan American Games team topped the Dominican Republic 92-80 on Sunday to improve to 2-1 in preliminary play in Winnipeg, Canada. The win assured the U.S. women of a top-four finish in preliminary play and a spot in the medal round semifinals on Aug. 5.
Kansas' Lynn Pride led the U.S. on Sunday with 20 points and 11 rebounds, while former Tennessee player Michelle Marciniak added 16 points. Starting at center, Carolina alum Sylvia Crawley chipped in five points and three rebounds.
The U.S. will play its fourth game in as many days on Monday when it takes on Brazil, which is 3-0 and the only member of the six-team competition without a loss. The U.S. opened play on July 30 with a 63-55 win over Argentina, but lost to Cuba on July 31, 95-64.
