Tar Heel Men's Golfers Finish 16th At Ping/Golfweek Preview

OPELIKA, Ala. - North Carolina's men's golf team finished in 16th place at the Ping/Golfweek Preview after posting rounds of 306-299-303. Northwestern topped the 18-team field carding a 16-under-par 848 total. Clemson finished eight shots back in second place with an 856 total while Arizona State finished third at 863 and Georgia Tech placed fifth with an even-par 864 total.
Luke Donald of Northwestern captured the individual title posting an eight-under-par 208 total after firing rounds of 68-73-67. Donald's teammate, Jess Daley, was the runner-up, finishing one stroke behind Donald at 209. Lucas Glover of Clemson finished third with a 210 total while Matt Jones of Arizona State finished fourth at 211 and Bubba Watson of Georgia finished fifth at with a 213 total.
Paul Daniel was the low Tar Heel finishing in 26th place with a 220 total after carding rounds of 70-74-76. Rob Simmons and Jay Degenhart tied for 68th place with 230 totals while Ramon Bescansa tied for 75th at 233 and Ted Haley tied for 80th at 235.
The 54- hole event was played at Grand National Lake Course which features a par 72, 6,985-yard layout. Golfweek ranks seventeen of the 18 participants in this year's tournament in the top 25.
