Tar Heel Men's Golfers in 15th Place After First Round At Carpet Capital Classic

DALTON, Ga. - North Carolina's men's golf struggled during the first round of the Carpet Capital Classic firing a 304 total and stands in 15th place. Georgia leads the field of 15 teams with a 10-under-par 278 total. UCLA is three shots back in second place at 281 while Clemson is third at 283, Georgia Tech is fourth at 286 and Florida, Tennessee and East Tennessee State are tied for fifth at 292.
Nick Cassini of Georgia leads all individuals after firing a seven-under-par 65. Teammate Ryan Hybl is two shots back in second place at 67. Lucas Glover of Clemson is alone in third place at four-under 68 while four players are tied for fourth place at 69... Clemson's D.J. Trahan, South Carolina's Kyle Thompson, N.C. State's David Sanchez and Virginia's Cameron Yancey.
Freshman Dustin Bray was the low Tar Heel at even par 72 and is tied for 19th place. Whitten Meares carded a 75 and is tied for 44th place while Ramon Bescansa is tied for 59th at 77, Rob Simmons is tied for 70th at 80 and Richard Treis is in 74th place at 81.
The tournament continues through Sunday. The event is being held at the Farm which features a par 72, 6,906-yard layout.
