Carolina Track Competes In Day One Of Kroger Invitational

Chapel Hill, N.C. - The Tar Heel track team competed in the first day of competition of the Kroger Invitational in Blacksburg, Va. on Friday. Junior Joy Ganes won the high jump with a mark of 5-10. Ganes has already reached the NCAA provisional qualifying mark. The UNC distance medley relay team also earned a first place finish, winning in a time of 11:44.46.
Junior Lutisha Shittu advanced to the finals of the women's 60m and 60m low hurdles with times of 7.72 and 8.51, respectively. Senior Ilana Finley will join Shittu in the finals of the 60m low hurdles.
In the field, freshman Jill Pedretti took fourth in the 20-pound weight throw with a throw of 54-1 Ľ and Stefani Dixon finished seventh in the pole vault with a mark of 11-3.
For the men, Senior Kevin Crittendon finished fifth in the triple jump with a leap of 50-6 ľ and also advanced to the finals of the 60m high hurdles in 8.23. Also, Sal Gigante finished fifth in the 35-pound weight throw with a mark of 61-5 ˝.
