UNC Golf Stands Sixth After First Round In Puerto Rico

SAN JUAN, PUERTO RICO - The University of North Carolina men's golf team kicked off their spring season Sunday and stands tied for sixth place after the first round of the Puerto Rico Classic. Clemson and Georgia Tech lead the field of 15 teams after both squads fired four-under 284. Duke and N.C. State are two shots back at two-under 286 while Wake Forest is alone in fifth place at 287 and Carolina and Northwestern are tied for sixth place with 289 totals.
Bryce Molder of Georgia Tech grabbed the individual lead after firing a five-under 67. D.J. Trahan of Clemson and Kris Mannah of Florida State are tied for second place at four-under 68 while N.C. State's David Sanchez is in fourth place at 69.
Carolina senior Paul Daniel is one of six players tied for fifth place at two-under 70. Also for the Tar Heels, freshman Ramon Bescansa carded an even par 72 and is tied for 18th place. Rob Simmons posted a 73 and is tied for 32nd place while Max Harris is tied for 42nd place at 74 and Will Snellings is tied for 73rd at 81.
The 54-hole event continues through Tuesday and is being played at Rio Mar Country Club which features a par 72, 6,945-yard layout.
