For the second straight week, and fourth time this season, North Carolina freshman guard Joseph Forte has been named the ACC Rookie of the Week after leading the Tar Heels in scoring in both of their games this past week.
The Greenbelt, Md. product netted 43 points on the week, and his top outing came on Saturday as he hit on 11-of-20 shots from the floor in scoring 24 points against Duke. That performance was the seventh 20-point outing for the rookie this season.
Earlier in the week, Forte had 19 points, including the game-winning field goal in overtime to lift North Carolina to a 74-72 win over Georgia Tech. Also in that game, he added a career-high six steals, all in the first half, to go along with his scoring exploits.
On the season, Forte ranks sixth in the ACC in scoring, tops among freshman, and also ranks among the top ten in field goal percentage (.470), three-point field goal percentage (.377) and steals per game (1.6).
