Todd Maher Named USILA Scholar All-America

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Todd Maher, a senior defenseman on the University of North Carolina men's lacrosse team was named Monday to the 2000 United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Scholar All-America Team. Student-athletes are chosen based on their excellence academically, athletically and as citizens in their respective communities.
A native of Towson, Md. and 1996 alumnus of the Loyola Blakefield School, Maher received his degree in business administration from Carolina last month. A defenseman, Maher was amongst the Carolina team leaders this year in ground balls with 57 and he netted 213 in his career. He was named an honorable mention NCAA Division I All-America last week for the second time in his career. Maher graduated from Carolina with an overall GPA of 3.56.
The athletes named to this team are student with senior academic standing, who must meet the suggested academic criteria of a cumulative grade point average of 3.2 on a 4.0 scale, and be either a member of one of the All-America teams or one of the North-South all-star teams. All nominees must be of strong character and have conducted themselves on and off the field in a manner that has brought credit to himself, his institution, and to the sport of collegiate men's lacrosse.
Maher will be honored along with other members of the Scholar All-America Team at the annual Lacrosse All-American dinner at 6:30 p.m. on June 9 at the University of Delaware.
The Scholar Athlete Team was chosen by the USILA committee which includes Mike Hanna of Hobart, Bill Tierney of Princeton, James Stagnitta of Washington & Lee, Bryan Matthews of Washington College and John Spring of the USILA.
