Chapel Hill, N.C. - North Carolina men's lacrosse coach John Haus has announced a tenative schedule for the 2001 Tar Heels which will be challenging in nature as UNC begins a new era in its vaunted lacrosse history. Haus, a 1983 Carolina graduate and All-America defender for the Tar Heels in the early 1980s, left the head coaching job at Johns Hopkins in June to take over a Tar Heel program which has advanced to the NCAA Tournament only once in the last four years.
Haus will challenge his young squad, which lost seven valuable senior performers off the 2000 team which finished 8-6 overall, with a slate in 2001 which includes 11 regular season games--five in the friendly confines of Fetzer Field and six on the road. UNC will open the 2001 season against Fairfield at Fetzer Field on February 18. Other home games will come against Penn, Butler, arch-rival Duke and Johns Hopkins. The six road games take UNC all up and down the East Coast with trips to Navy, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, UMBC and Hofstra.
The 2001 ACC Tournament will be played at Orlando, Fla. on April 20 and 22 at the Walt Disney World Wide World of Sports Complex.
