North Carolina 30, Tulsa 9
First of all, it's very exciting to get a victory the first game of the season. I know how things started around here the last two years and I am thrilled to get the victory. It sure beats how we felt after the first game the past two years.
We played pretty well for three quarters and did not play very well in the fourth quarter. We have to get better at that and play a full four quarters.
I think Mike O'Cain and the offensive staff did a great job with the game plan. They did a good job of keeping us diversified and I was happy with what we saw out there tonight.
I think Ronald Curry made some great plays, oftimes making a lot out of nothing. He made good decisions in the passing game although in the fourth quarter we were not as efficient as I would like us to be. But overall he played well and that is what makes him a special quarterback. I think Antwon Black also made some good plays for us when he was in there.
Two things I didn't like out there tonight were the two lost fumbles and what I counted as six dropped interceptions.
I want to tip my hat to Coach Burns. I think Tulsa was a well prepared team and I think that program has a great future under Coach Burns. It's tough to go on the road far away from home the first game with a brand new program. They were well organized and they are headed in the right direction.
I though our receivers played well. Jamal Jones has great ability and tremendous speed. I'm really excited about the receiving corps, especially players like Bosley Allen, Sam Aiken and Kory Bailey. Also, on the offensive side, Anthony Saunders ran the ball exceptionally well.
I thought defensively we played pretty well. We were well prepared and we showed a great deal of poise. Any time you hold a team under 250 total yards that means you are doing a great job. I liked what I saw with the intensity our there. I thought Ross McAllister played real well for us. Ryan Sims and Brandon Spoon made some big plays for us.
