CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) - Kris Lang scored 12 of his 27 points over the final 6:30 minutes as No. 19 North Carolina rebounded from a 31-point exhibition loss to beat Nike Elite 81-70 Saturday.
The Tar Heels lost to the EA Sports Southeast All-Stars 107-76 last Sunday. This time, North Carolina extended a one-point halftime lead by shooting 52 percent in the second half.
North Carolina led 57-55 with 10:05 remaining, but Nike Elite managed just 15 points the rest of the way, going 2-for-17 from 3-point range in the second half.
"I think we took a step in growing up a little bit today," North Carolina coach Matt Doherty said. "I could have made some substitutions down the stretch but I wanted to win the basketball game because our kids needed it. We need to have some confidence that we can win."
Lang was 11-for-15 from the field with 12 rebounds and Brian Morrison added 20 points. Will Johnson, playing for injured starter Jason Capel, had 15 rebounds.
Capel is still nursing a hamstring injury, but Doherty said he would play in the season opener next Friday against Hampton.
Wayland White led Nike Elite with 20 points and 10 rebounds.
