Sutton Earns Spot On ACC's All-Freshman Team

Freshman center Candace Sutton put an exclamation point on her first year as a Tar Heel women's basketball player by earning a spot on the Atlantic Coast Conference's All- Freshman Team. Sutton is the seventh UNC player to be named to the team and the first since Nikki Teasley made the squad in 1998.
Sutton, a 6-foot-6 player from Kettering, Md., averaged 9.8 points and 5.6 rebounds for the Tar Heels in 2000-01. She appeared in 28 games and started 24.
Sutton improved steadily throughout the season, scoring in double figures in 12 of the last 14 games. She earned ACC Rookie of the Week honors on Feb. 5 after averaging 14 points and six rebounds in the previous week's games.
She led the team in blocks with 1.4 per game, second in the ACC.
