Tar Heels Win Gymnastics Meet

Chapel Hill, N.C. ------ In her final regular-season home meet, North Carolina senior Brooke Wilson won the all-around competition with a school-record 39.50, leading the Tar Heels to victory over Eastern Michigan and Illinois Chicago. UNC scored a 194.900, edging Eastern Michigan (194.775) by .125. Illinois-Chicago was third at 191.925.
Wilson, the Tar Heels' top gymnast, won the uneven bars with a 9.85, the balance beam with a 9.95 and the floor exercise with a 9.925. She was third on the vault with a 9.775.
"Brooke Wilson and Monica Middleton had the best meet of their careers," said UNC Head Coach Derek Galvin. "Brooke continues to amaze and overall, our team fought through some adversity today to win. Several gymnasts were suffering from flu-like symptoms, but they continued to perform at a high level."
Middleton was third in the all-around with a score of 39.175 and Lisa Companioni was fourth with a 38.875.
North Carolina swept the top four spots on the balance beam, led by Wilson's 9.95 and followed by Natalie Halbach (9.925), Companioni (9.900) and Middleton (9.875).
The Tar Heels next meet is on Saturday, March 10 at George Washington.
