Men's Golfers Invited to NCAA Central Regional

The University of North Carolina men's golf team has been selected to play in the 2001 NCAA Men's Golf Tournament, the NCAA announced Tuesday afternoon. The Tar Heels will be one of 27 teams competing in the Central Regional on May 17-19 at the Karsten Creek Golf Club in Stillwater, Okla.
The Central Regional is one of three regional events that will be played on May 17-19. Qualifying teams from the three regionals will advance to the NCAA Championship at Duke on May 30-June 2.
Carolina is one of five Atlantic Coast Conference teams invited to play in the NCAA Tournament. Georgia Tech, Clemson, Duke and Wake Forest also earned invitations.
Central Regional invitees include: Augusta State (District 3 North), College of Charleston (District 3 South), Minnesota, Northwestern, Kent State, Purdue, Ohio State and Toledo (District 4), Oklahoma State, Oklahoma, Kansas, Colorado, Tulsa, Wichita State and Arkansas State (District 5), Texas, TCU, Houston, Southern, Baylor, Arkansas-Little Rock, Louisiana-Lafayette and Texas A&M (District 6) and North Florida, North Carolina, Jackson State and Lamar (at-large).
This is the 13th consecutive year and the 26th year overall the Tar Heels will be competing in the NCAA Tournament. Carolina's highest finish was second in 1953 and 1991. UNC has earned a pair of 10th-place finishes the previous two seasons under head coach John Inman.
