GREENSBORO, N.C. - Atlantic Coast Conference Commissioner John Swofford announced today the composite schedule for the upcoming 2001-02 ACC women's basketball season. Headlining the ACC's 33-game TV schedule are 11 national telecasts including three games on ESPN, four on ESPN2, and four games on FOX Sports Net. In addition, 20 conference matchups will be featured this year on the league's regional sports network as well as two non-conference contests broadcast by FOX Sports Net South.
The league's 27-game TV package, with live telecasts for all games by FOX Sports Net South, Sunshine Network and ESPN2, is an increase of five games from a year ago. In the last 12 years, the conference has advanced from a four-game regional package that featured one live telecast and three tape-delay games to this season's 27 games. The 23 regular-season telecasts will culminate with live coverage of the 25th annual ACC Women's Basketball Tournament, the oldest women's conference tournament in the country.
For the third consecutive year, the ACC Tournament will be held in the Greensboro Coliseum. This tournament will mark the first time that two quarterfinal match-ups will be aired on FOX Sports Net South and Sunshine as well as both semifinal games being broadcast nationally on FOX Sports Net. For the fourth straight year, the ACC Championship game will be featured on FOX Sports Net.
ACC LIVE!, a 30 minute pre-game show, will air and highlight women's basketball action from around the league for that particular weekend. ACC LIVE! Is scheduled for Monday nights at 6:30 pm prior to the featured conference match-up that evening.
In addition to the 33-game schedule, ACC Women's Basketball will be featured in a nationally televised hour-long preview show aired on FOX Sports Net. The show is slated for November 25 At 6:00 pm.
