Tar Heel Town Information
Where: Polk Place (quad between South Building and Wilson Library)
When: Tar Heel Town is held on the day of every home football game. THT opens 2 1/2 hours prior to kickoff and closes 45 minutes before kickoff. EVERYONE is welcome.
Old Well Walk: The UNC Football team will arive at the Old Well 2 hours and 15 minutes prior to kickoff. They will walk from South Building through Tar Heel Town to Kenan Stadium. Fans are encouraged to cheer the team on as they make the "Old Well Walk."
Oldies 100.7 Countdown to Kickoff: Oldies 100.7 (Carolina's flagship station) will begin its live broadcast of "Countdown to Kickoff" two hours before game time from Tar Heel Town. Stephen Gates and former UNC defensive back Greg Poole will host "Countdown to Kickoff." The show will consist of various segments including: interviews with former UNC football players, appearances by Woody Durham and Mick Mixon, weather and traffic updates, music and more.
Food: Parker's BBQ of Wilson, N.C., will offer BBQ plates to the general public for only $7.00. Plates include all the traditional fixings and sweet tea. Boston Market will serve box lunches for $6.25. Domino's Pizza will serve pizza and drikns. TCBY will serve ice cream. There will be a large tailgate area where people can eat and enjoy the "Countdown to Kickoff" show.
Big Screen TVs: Tar Heel Town will include two 48-inch televisions and a Direct TV satellite system compliments of NOW! Audio Video. The TVs will show college football games from around the country. Fans can register to win one of the TVs or the satellite system at the registration table in front of the radio show stage. The winners will be drawn after the Duke game on Nov. 22
Activities for Kids: Tar Heel Town will offer the traditional activities for children. Activities include: rock climbing wall, inflatable bounce house, face painting and photos with Rameses.
BellSouth Tailgate Tour: BellSouth has picked Tar Heel Town as one of 10 places around the Southeast to hold its college football Tailgate Tour. They will be at Tar Heel Town for the Florida State game on Aug. 30. They will provide inflatable games and an interactive E-Zone where fans can browse the web.
