Tipoff: No. 17 UNC hosts NC State, Jan. 10
The University of North Carolina women's basketball team (13-2, 3-0 ACC) hosts Atlantic Coast Conference rival NC State Thursday at the Dean E. Smith Center. Tipoff is 7 p.m. for the teams' first meeting of the season and UNC's first game of the year at the Smith Center.
Next up for the Tar Heels is a trip to Clemson, where UNC will face the Lady Tigers Sunday at 1 p.m. Carolina's next home game is Thursday, Jan. 17, when Georgia Tech will visit for a 7 p.m. game at Carmichael Auditorium.
On the air
The game between UNC and NC State will be broadcast live on radio by the Tar Heel Radio Network. The flagship station is 1360-AM WCHL. Stephen Gates is Carolina's play-by-play announcer and Jones Angell will provide color commentary. Game action also is available via the internet at www.TarHeelBlue.com.
Tickets
Tickets to UNC women's basketball games are $5 for adults, $3 for students and seniors. There is no charge for admission for children 12 and under.
North Carolina students, faculty and staff are admitted free with their UNC One Cards.

* Thursday's game is the first at the Smith Center for the UNC women since last year's 83-77 overtime win over NC State on Jan. 14.
* UNC's 13-2 overall record is UNC's best start since the 1998-99 season, when the Tar Heels lost just once in their first 15 games.

Scouting the NC State Wolfpack
NC State is 8-6 overall, 2-1 in the ACC, following a 75-63 win over Georgia Tech on Jan. 6.
The Wolfpack is led in scoring by Carisse Moody with 12.8 points per game. Moody, also the team's rebounding leader with 5.8 per game, is not expected to play Thursday because of an ankle injury. Kaayla Chones is averaging 9.8 points per game for NC State and led the team with 31 points in the win over Georgia Tech.
* UNC and NC State have faced two common opponents this season. Both teams defeated Old Dominion, NC State 74-58 on Nov. 26 in Raleigh and UNC 95-85 on Dec. 2 in Norfolk, Va. Both teams also earned wins against Wake Forest, Carolina 90-68 on Dec. 5 in Chapel Hill and NC State 61-47 on Dec. 30 in Winston-Salem, N.C.
The North Carolina-NC State series
North Carolina trails 46-22 in the series with NC State. The Tar Heels won last year's matchup in Chapel Hill, 83-77 in overtime at the Smith Center on Jan. 14, but the Wolfpack has won six of the last seven meetings. In the most recent game, NC State defeated UNC 84-73 in Raleigh on Feb. 22, 2001.
Smith Center a second home
The NC State game is the first of three that the UNC women's basketball team will play this season at the Dean E. Smith Center. The Tar Heels will host Virginia at the Smith Center on Jan. 27 and Duke on Feb. 24.
Thursday night's game is UNC's first in the facility since last year's home game against NC State, an 83-77 overtime win for Carolina on Jan. 14, 2001.
The UNC women first played at the Smith Center on Jan. 13, 1987, losing 82-76 to NC State during Sylvia Hatchell's first season as the Tar Heels' coach.
The Tar Heels are 11-7 overall at the Smith Center.

CHAPEL HILL, N.C.-Led by 18 points from senior guard Nikki Teasley, the Tar Heels improved to 13-2 with a nonconference win on their home court. Also in double figures were Coretta Brown (11), Candace Sutton (11) and Leah Metcalf (10).
UNC scored the game's first 15 points and led by as many as 29 points in the first half. The Tar Heels were up 53-32 at halftime after taking 47 shots to UT-Martin's 25 and outrebounding the Skyhawks 28-11.
Tennessee-Martin's Kelly Pendleton scored 26 points, including seven three-pointers. She hit 20 in the second half, when the Skyhawks scored 35 points to UNC's 37.
Carolina won the rebounding battle 49-35.
