Keeran, a sophomore from Sunbury, Ohio, scored her first goal in the opening period to put UNC up 1-0 and her second in the 50th minute of play to put the Tar Heels up 3-1. The win gave No. 9 UNC a 3-1 record in Atlantic Coast Conference play and locked up the No. 2 seed in the ACC Tournament, which begins Nov. 7 at Duke.
She also was named ACC Field Hockey Player of the Week.
After missing the first four games of the season with a broken jaw, Keeran has started the last 13 and now has four goals, two of them game-winners. She also has two assists for a total of 10 points, tied for fourth on the team.
Saturday's performance was Keeran's first two-goal game of the season and the third of her career.
Other nominees:
Women's Tennis: Kate Pinchbeck went 4-1 in singles competition at the ITA Southeast Regional in Winston-Salem. She lost in the finals to Julie Coin of Clemson today, 7-6 (5), 6-2. Pinchbeck also advanced to the finals of the doubles competition with teammate Kendrick Bunn.
Men's Soccer: Ryan Kneipper scored both goals in UNC's 2-0 win over George Mason and had one goal and one assist in a 2-2 tie with #1-ranked Wake Forest on Saturday.
Men's Tennis: Trystan Meniane, a senior from Martinique, France, became the first Tar Heel to qualify for the ITA National Indoor Singles Championships since 1993. Meniane became one 16 players nationally to qualify for the indoor singles tournament after winning four of five matches at regional qualifying this past weekend. He upset 29th-ranked David Lowenthal of Wake Forest and 34th-ranked Florian Marquardt of Virginia.
