CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) - Clemson coach Jim Davis harped on rebounding during his pregame speech.
He didn't think he'd have to do it after the game, too.
Coretta Brown had six 3-pointers and 18 points, and No. 20 North Carolina had 18 offensive rebounds as the Tar Heels beat Clemson 86-76 on Thursday night.
"They had 39 offensive rebounds in the two games we've played, and that never is supposed to happen," Davis said. "When that's the main focus of your entire pre-game talk and they do that, then that must mean I'm the worst coach in America."
Clemson (14-10, 6-7 Atlantic Coast) scored 11 straight points to lead by two at halftime, but North Carolina (20-6, 9-4) went on a 12-2 run midway through the second half.
Candace Sutton had six straight points during the run and Brown followed with consecutive 3-pointers to put the Tar Heels up 60-50 with 7:53 left.
rown made four 3-pointer in the second half and North Carolina made 14 of 19 free throws in the final 2:05 to hold off the Tigers.
"They never would go away," said Brown. "You just have to match them pound-for-pound the whole game and stay focused."
Sutton finished with 16 points, and Nikki Teasley had 14 points and matched a season high with nine assists. Leah Metcalf added 13 points and Jennifer Thomas 10 for the Tar Heels.
Clemson lost its second straight despite 24 points from Chrissy Floyd. Krystal Scott added 18 for the Tigers and Marci Glenney had 11.
Scott hit five of her first six shots, including two 3-pointers to score 12 first-half points and lead Clemson to a 37-35 halftime lead.
"Just another typical Clemson-Carolina game," North Carolina coach Sylvia Hatchell said.
