Porter Wilkinson Named Academic All-District

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - University of North Carolina women's lacrosse player Porter Wilkinson has earned academic all-district honors for the second consecutive year, it was announced late last week at the NCAA Final Four in Baltimore.
Wilkinson, a senior defender from Charlottesville, Va., was named to the CoSIDA/Verizon Academic All-District II Women's At-Large Team for 2002. She now is eligible to earn academic All-America honors, to be announced later this summer.
Wilkinson is a member of Phi Beta Kappa who has earned Dean's List and Atlantic Coast Conference Honor Roll distinction in each of her four years in Chapel Hill. The ACC recently awarded Wilkinson a Weaver-James-Corrigan Postgraduate Scholarship in recognition of her achievements in the classroom and on the field.
On the field, Wilkinson has completed her Tar Heel career as only three-time All-ACC player in Carolina history. She was a first-team IWLCA All-America as a sophomore in 2000 and a second-team choice in 2001. Last weekend, she was named first-team All-South, and on Monday afternoon she was named a first-team IWLCA/USL All-America. Wilkinson also earned All-ACC tournament honors this spring.
The Tar Heels posted the most wins in school history in 2002, going 17-3, winning the ACC Tournament and advancing to the NCAA Final Four before losing to eventual national champion Princeton on May 17 in Baltimore, Md.
