COLUMBUS, OHIO - North Carolina's men's golf team had a tough final round carding a 13-over-par 297 for an 1155 total and stands in 17th place at the NCAA Championships. Minnesota captured the team title with a final-round six-under 278 for a six-under 1134 total while top-ranked Georgia Tech finished four shots back in second place with an 1138 total after posting a one-over 285 on the last day. Clemson and Texas tied for third place with 1142 totals while Augusta State finished fifth at 1143, NC State finished sixth at 1144, Purdue tallied a seventh-place finish with an 1145 total and Pepperdine placed eighth at 1146.
Troy Matteson of Georgia Tech captured the individual title with an eight-under 276 total after firing a four-under 67 in the final round. Adam Rubinson of TCU finished one stroke back at 277 after posting a final-round 69. Hunter Mahan of Oklahoma State finished third with a 278 total while UAB's Graeme McDowell and Minnesota's Justin Smith tied for fourth place at 279 and NC State's Justin Walters and Fresno State's Nick Watney tied for sixth place with 280 totals.
For the Tar Heels, Ramon Bescansa tied for 13th place with a two-under 282 total after firing an even par 71 in the final round. Dustin Bray tied for 17th place after posting a 72 for a 283 total. Brad Moldin posted a 296 total while Bob Cherry carded a 297 and Jeremy Elliott finished with a 301 total.
The 72-hole event was played at Ohio State's Scarlet Course, a par 72, 7,222-yard layout.
