Following one of the most successful baseball seasons in UNC history, several Tar Heels have begun gathering experience in two premier wooden-bat summer leagues.
Daniel Moore (Chatham A's), Jeremy Cleveland (Chatham A's), Chris Iannetta (Chatham A's), Whitley Benson (Orleans Cardinals) and Garry Bakker (Cotuit Kettlers) are all playing in the Cape Cod League - the premier amateur baseball league in America since 1885. Last year, Russ Adams burst onto the national scene when he was named the top professional prospect in the CCBL. He went on to be drafted with the 14th overall pick in the MLB Draft earlier this month.
Meanwhile, Paul Jenkins (Wilson Tobs), Michael Gross (Wilson Tobs), Scott Manshack (Gastonia Grizzlies), Mell Adams (Wilmington Sharks), Justin Webb (Wilmington Sharks), Wes Moyer (Outer Banks Daredevils) and Bryan Phillips (Outer Banks Daredevils) are all playing in the Coastal Plain League, a league based exclusively in the Carolinas and Virginia. Last year, Senatore and Moyer were both named All-Stars in the league, with Moyer taking MVP honors in the all-star game.
Meanwhile, Russ Adams, Chris Maples, Scott Autrey and Adam Greenberg have all signed professional contracts after being drafted on June 4. Adams has begun play with the Auburn Doubledays (Class A), Maples is playing with the Oneonta Tigers (Class A) and Greenberg has been assigned to the Lansing Lugnuts (Class A). Autrey is a recent signee and has not yet been assigned.
