
Tar Heels Fall To Arizona State On Final Play

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) - Andrew Walter threw a 5-yard touchdown pass to Skyler Fulton with no time on the clock to give Arizona State a 33-31 victory over North Carolina on Saturday.
Walter was 34-of-58 for 408 yards for the Sun Devils (4-3).
Derek Hagan caught 11 passes for 185 yards, including a 49-yard touchdown reception and a 42-yarder that set up Fulton's winner. It was Hagan's third consecutive game with more than 100 yards.
Fulton also caught an 11-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter and ended up with 68 yards on seven receptions.
Walter was 3-for-6 on the last possession as Arizona State drove 61 yards in 36 seconds. His 42-yarder to Hagan put the Sun Devils at 5, and Walter then tossed the winning pass to Fulton along the back of the end zone.
Loren Wade ran for 130 yards on 16 carries for Arizona State, and Hakim Hill had 14 carries for 72 yards, including an 8-yard touchdown run.
North Carolina (1-6) took a 31-27 lead on Darian Durant's 1-yard TD pass to Jacques Lewis with 7:43 left.
Ronnie McGill scored on runs of 1 and 11 yards, and Durant was 13-of-23 for 163 yards.
McGill scored on a 1-yard plunge and Chad Scott had an 11-yard TD run to give North Carolina a 14-6 lead in the first quarter.
Scott's touchdown came one play after Arizona State's Mike Karney left a fumbled lateral he thought was an incomplete pass sitting on the ground. North Carolina's Tommy Davis picked it up at the Sun Devils 30and returned it to the 11 to set up Scott's TD.
North Carolina closed to 27-24 in the third quarter on Dan Orner's 50-yard field goal and Hill's 8-yard scoring catch.
