CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) - Leah Metcalf and Ivory Latta scored 16 points to lead No. 13 North Carolina to a 76-34 victory over Maryland Baltimore-County on Saturday.
Metcalf and Latta shot a combined 7-for-13 from 3-point range, and Camille Little finished with 12 points and seven rebounds for the Tar Heels (4-0).
Anastasia Goncharova shot 6-for-13 from beyond the arc and led UMBC (0-3) with 18 points.
The Tar Heels, whose starters average 6-foot-1, outrebounded the Retrievers, whose tallest players are 6-0, 37-30.
North Carolina shot 42.6 percent from the field (29-for-68), and limited UMBC to 10-for-36 (27.8 percent) shooting. The Tar Heels forced 28 turnovers and committed just eight.
UMBC was within 10 points of the Tar Heels until the last minute of the first half when UNC opened up a 35-21 advantage.
The Tar Heels scored on seven of their first eight possessions of the second half, extending their lead to 48-24.
The Retrievers never got closer than 22 points in the second half.
