Tar Heels Roll Past Seton Hall, 6-1

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - North Carolina (3-0) defeated Seton Hall (0-2) 6-1 Sunday afternoon in the the first game of a doubleheader at Boshamer Stadium. The Tar Heels got a strong performance by their pitching staff and some timely hitting to pick up their third victory of the season.
UNC starting pitcher Garry Bakker scattered four hits over six innings and allowed just one run while striking out three. This strong performance earned Bakker his first victory of the season.
Carolina struck first in the bottom of the third inning when Sammy Hewitt continued his hot hitting and led off with a double then came around to score on an error by Seton Hall shortstop Santiago Chi.
Seton Hall finally got to Bakker and tied the score in the top of the sixth inning. With one out, leadoff batter Anthony Seratelli hit a wind-blown triple to centerfield and scored when Josh Schuck followed with a sacrifice fly.
The Tar Heels loaded the bases without a hit in the bottom of the sixth but came away with only one run. Sean Farrell led off with a walk then with one out, Haggerty hit both Jeremy Cleveland and Ryan Blake with pitches. A sacrifice fly to center field by Chase Younts allowed Farrell to score and put UNC back up, 2-1.
Carolina added to its lead in the bottom half of the seventh with four runs on three hits. Farrell had an RBI single and Chad Prosser scored on a sacrifice fly to right by Cleveland. Another Seton Hall error and wild pitch accounted for the Tar Heels' final two runs of the inning.
Carolina and Seton Hall will wrap up their weekend series with game two of the doubleheader at approximately 2:00 p.m. on Sunday.
