Throughout the 2002-03 season, senior forward Jennifer Thomas will provide TarHeelBlue.com readers with an inside look at the Carolina women's basketball program. This installment is her 10th of the season.
Well all good things must come to an end ... and last night was the seniors' final home game at Carmichael Auditorium.
Hello Tar Heel fans!! Last night I played in my final home game as a Tar Heel. I can't believe I'm saying this because I remember my very first home game like it was yesterday. I guess the saying is true - time really does fly when you're having fun!
During last night's game I had mixed emotions. I never thought it was possible to be sad, elated and anxious all at the same time, but believe me, it is possible. For our final home game we played Maryland and we really jumped out on them from the start. I think this was the best we've played as a team since our overtime lost to Duke. Everyone just looked like they were having so much fun - it was a great feeling.
Well, enough about the actual game. I would like to talk about what it's like to be a senior captain on such a wonderful team.
I can honestly say that I have 13 sisters that I am really going to miss playing with and interacting with. This is one of the best teams that I have ever been on. Now, don't get me wrong - there are times when things between each other get a little feisty, but in the end we've got each other's backs. And that's what it's all about. For me, leaving my teammates will be the hardest part because I care about each and every one of them and because we all have so much fun together. I love you guys!
Now to the seniors: Our class is the BOMB!! We came in young and eager and have developed into beautiful, assertive women. I am so proud to be a part of this senior class. Coretta, Courtney, and Liz: I expect big things from you guys because I know you all won't demand anything less.
Well, class is calling my name. Jeeennnniifffer. Peace.
P.S. Courtney, we still have to go out to California so that we can get our "BIG BREAK"!! Watch out Halle and Julia, here we come!
