This Week's Results
After stealing two of three games vs. Wake Forest last weekend, the Tar Heels dominated non-conference foe Towson in a pair of midweek games.
Despite a sloppy day that included a season-high four errors, five RBIs by the middle of the Carolina provided all the run support Scott Manshack and Co. would need for a 9-4 win Tuesday. Chad Prosser was 3-for-5 on the day with three runs scored, and Chris Iannetta also had three hits including a solo home run.
Wednesday, the Tar Heels took advantage of 10 walks and 18 hits to tough up the Tigers 15-1. Seven pitchers threw at least one in, with freshman Matt Danford picking up his first collegiate win on the staff day.
Prosser led UNC with three hits for the second-straight day, and Justin Webb pitched in with his the first three-hit performance of his career. Nine Tar Heels drove in at least one run.
Mangum Returns With A Bang
Starting second baseman Greg Mangum missed five games, including the entire Auburn series, due to injury. He made his return with a bang on March 11, hitting his first career home run against Ball State.
Since then, he has has been on a tear, hitting in 12-straight games during which he is hitting .413. He has raised his season average to .357, fourth best on the team. During that stretch, he also has scored 13 runs and driven in another eight.
Last year he broke into the line up in part due to his defense, and has continued to dazzle. He made a pair of diving plays vs. Wake Forest in one inning to snare balls bound for right field, once diving right and once to his left.
