Tar Heels Open Tournament Play Saturday

North Carolina will open play at the 2003 Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Basketball Tournament on Saturday at 4:30 p.m., when the second-seeded Tar Heels meet the winner of Friday's game between Clemson and Maryland. Clemson, the No. 7 seed, and Maryland, the No. 8 seed, play at 6 p.m. on Friday in the opening game of the tournament.
For the fourth year in a row, the ACC tournament will be held at the Greensboro Coliseum in Greensboro, N.C. Five of the eight games, including UNC's opener on Saturday, will be televised. Two Saturday quarterfinal games (FSU vs. Georgia Tech at 2 p.m. and UNC's game at 4:30) will air regionally on Comcast SportsNet, Fox Sports Net South and Sunshine Network. Both semifinal games and the tournament championship will air nationally on Fox Sports Net.

No. 11 UNC heads into the tournament with a record of 25-4. The Tar Heels earned the No. 2 seed with a 13-3 finish in regular-season ACC play.

Game 2 - No. 1 Duke vs. No. 9 Wake Forest, 8 p.m.
Saturday:
Game 3 - No. 4 Florida State vs. No. 5 Georgia Tech, 2 p.m.
Game 4 - No. 2 UNC vs. Clemson/Maryland winner, 4:30 p.m.
Game 5 - No. 3 Virginia vs. No. 6 NC State, 7 p.m.
Sunday:
Game 6 - Game 2 winner vs. Game 3 winner, 1 p.m.
Game 7 - Game 4 winner vs. Game 5 winner, 3:30 p.m.
Monday:
Game 8 - Championship game, 7:30 p.m.
