John "Hook" Dillon Passes Away

Carolina Basketball lost a dear member of its family on Jan. 18 when All-America forward John "Hook" Dillon passed away at Forsyth Medical Center. Hook Dillon had turned 80-years-old on January 8. Mr. Dillon had been married to his wife, Joan, for 53 years. He founded the John Dillon Insurance Agency in 1951.
Mr. Dillon's No. 13 hangs in the rafters at the Smith Center. He earned All-America honors in 1946 and 1947, leading the Tar Heels to the 1946 NCAA Final Four. He scored 1,018 points in his UNC career, which spanned from 1945-48. He later played professional basketball in Washington, D.C. Mr. Dillon had six children and 13 grandchildren.
