Chad Scott Named Hardee's Carolina Student-Athlete of the Week

Chad Scott rushed for 175 yards and two scores to lead Carolina to a 31-28 win over fourth-ranked Miami. Scott is the Hardees Carolina Student-Athlete of the Week.
Making his first career start at North Carolina, Scott rushed for a career-high 175 yards on 25 carries and scored two touchdowns in North Carolina's 31-28 victory over No. 4 and previously unbeaten Miami. Scott also had a 12-yard reception on the Tar Heels' final scoring drive of the game. Scott had 118 yards rushing at halftime. His previous high in a game was 117 yards against Mississippi State in 2000 when he was playing for Kentucky. His previous high at North Carolina was 76 yards against William & Mary this season. Scott scored on a 14-yard run in the first half to tie the score at 14. In the third quarter, he had to be taken to the locker room with a hip pointer injury, but came back to score his second touchdown of the game on a 9-yard run to give Carolina a 28-21 advantage.

Nyenhuis led the Tar Heels to three wins last week, all of which came by sweep. She finished with a career-high .696 hitting percentage against Davidson, then followed that up with a career-high 25 digs against Duke. Nyenhuis rounded out the weekend with a double-double in the win over Wake Forest, tallying 16 kills and 11 digs. With the win over the Demon Deacons, Carolina reclaimed sole possession of second place in the ACC.
MEN'S GOLF

Martin Ureta fired a five-under-par 211 total to finish in third place of the Isleworth Collegiate Invitational in Windermere, Fla. Ureta fired a pair of two-under 70s in the first two rounds followed by a one-under 71 in the final round. He finished just two strokes behind champions Pablo Martin of Oklahoma State and Chris Kirk of Georgia. This third-place finish comes on the tails of his first collegiate victory the week before and concludes the team's fall campaign.

Henry finished the 6K course at the University of Maryland in 21:46.5 to finish second overall in the ACC Championships Saturday. Her performance helped lead the Tar Heels to a second place team finish behind Duke. Henry and her teammates will now prepare for the regional championships in Greenville, N.C., on November 13.

Mann, a junior forward, scored twice as second-ranked UNC closed out the regular season with a 4-1 win at No. 7 Old Dominion on Saturday. She now has 11 goals and two assists for 24 points this season, second on the team.

Senior center Jason Brown anchored an offensive line that paved the way for 279 yards rushing and 545 total offensive yards in Carolina's 31-28 victory over Miami. Brown graded out at 92 percent overall, including 100 percent in the passing game, had 11 knockdowns and did not allow a sack. It is the fourth game Brown has graded over 90 percent (80 is considered excellent in UNC's system). Brown opened holes for tailback Chad Scott to rush for a career-high 175 yards.

True freshman place-kicker Connor Barth booted a game-winning 42-yard field goal as time expired to give Carolina a 31-28 victory over No. 4 Miami. On the last possession of the game, Carolina drove the ball 55 yards on nine plays to the Miami 25-yard line to set up the field goal. After a Miami timeout, Barth calmly delivered the ball through the uprights for the victory. Barth also converted all four extra point attempts.
WOMEN'S SOCCER

Gilbert scored the game-winning goal in the second half to break a 1-1 tie and lifted No. 1 North Carolina to a 2-1 victory over No. 15 Duke. Gilbert also assisted on UNC's first goal of the match, in the fourth minute of play, which was scored by Anne Morrell. The win over Duke lifted the Tar Heels to 16-0-1 on the season and 9-0-0 in the ACC.
MEN'S TENNIS
Geoff Boyd and Derek Pomeroy

North Carolina's Geoff Boyd and Brad Pomeroy won the Wilson/ITA Mideast Region Doubles Championships by an 8-6 score over Duke's Jonathan Stokke and Peter Rodrigues. Carolina's team was seeded sixth in the tournament, while Duke's team was seeded fourth. Boyd and Pomeroy advance to the ITA Indoor National Championships November 4-7 in Ann Arbor, Mich.
