RALEIGH, N.C. - No. 16-ranked North Carolina won 13 of 16 events, including both relays, to power past NC State 203-97 in women's swimming and diving Wednesday night in Raleigh, N.C. The Tar Heels won their fourth meet in a row to improve to 4-1 overall and 3-0 in the ACC with the win. Senior Virginia Hanson and freshman Lindsey Marck led the UNC efforts with two individual wins and one relay win each.
Hanson (Birmingham, Ala.) took top honors in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:53.03 and she won the 500-yard by just one one-hundredth of a second over the Wolfpack's Lindsay Barwegen for her second win. The senior tri-captain also swam the second leg on Carolina's winning 400-yard freestyle relay. Marck (Newtown, Pa.) swam the butterfly leg on North Carolina's victorious 200-yard medley relay while winning the 100-yard freestyle in 52.53 and the 200-yard individual medley in 2:07.36.
Junior Emily Carroll also won a pair of events for Carolina as she won the 50-yard freestyle in 24.99 and the 100-yard butterfly in 58.44. Sophomore Meagan Eickman and junior Leila Martin swam on both winning Tar Heel relays as the Carolina women swam their last meet of the fall semester 2004.
