North Carolina held its first bowl practice of the week at Charlotte Country Day High School on Sunday morning. The Tar Heels held a two-hour workout session in unusually chilly weather as they continue preparations for the Continental Tire Bowl against Boston College on December 30.
"It was good to get back on the field," said head coach John Bunting. "In Chapel Hill we were able to get some extra work in, but now we are back into our game week routine. We treated today like a Tuesday practice and after we got warmed up a little bit, we did some good things."
The Carolina travel party officially arrived in Charlotte last evening at the Marriott Center City at 6:30 p.m. Carolina players, coaches and their families were treated to a Christmas dinner followed by a Santa Claus impersonation by none other than Bunting, who read a Carolina version of "Twas The Night Before Christmas." Tar Heel coaches also sang the 12 Days a Christmas and a team karaoke contest was allegedly won by the offensive linemen.
Today, however, the Tar Heels were back to business, holding position meetings before heading to practice.
"It was important for us to get a bowl bid," said Bunting. "But we are here in Charlotte to play a very fine Boston College team and win. We will have to play very well to do that and I know we can."
On Sunday afternoon, the team is heading to Jillian's, a restaurant that specializes in sports and video games.
Carolina's routine on Monday is essentially the same as today's with practice beginning at 11 a.m. Tomorrow, the Tar Heels will visit Wachovia for a presentation and tour of one of the nation's largest banks.
