Riesen, a senior at Pinecrest High School, was the Southeastern Conference Player of the Year the last three years (2002, 2003, 2004). He was selected to the 2004 Rolex/Polo Junior All-America second team, qualified for match play at the U.S. Junior in 2002, 2003 and 2004, and was a member of the 2004 Cannon Cup. Riesen was a quarterfinalist at the 2004 U.S. Junior and was the stroke play medalist at the 2003 Polo Junior Golf Classic. He is the top-ranked junior golfer in North Carolina by the Carolinas Junior Golf Association and is ranked 19th nationally in the Golfweek/Sagarin Rankings.
"I am very excited that Robert has chosen to play his college golf in Chapel Hill," says Inman. "He is an outstanding player and a super young man and we look forward to having such a talented player join our program."
MacFarland, a senior at Savannah Christian School in Savannah, Ga., is also on the cross country and basketball teams. He helped lead the golf team to two Class AAA golf state championships the last three seasons. MacFarland was the runner-up at the 2004 Georgia Junior Championship, tied for sixth at the 2004 AJGA Ringgold Classic and advanced to the round of 32 in the 2003 U.S. Junior Amateur. He was named the 2003-04 Callaway Junior Golf Series Player of the Year after placing first and tying for first in tournaments held at Duke and Clemson Universities.
"Chase will be a great addition to our program next fall," says Inman. "He is an extremely talented athlete with unlimited potential on the golf course."
