Two North Carolina spring sports teams, rowing and women's lacrosse, have been selected for Atlantic Coast Conference Sportsmanship Awards, bringing the year's total to four honors for Tar Heel squads. Other Carolina winners for the 2003-04 school year were field hockey, which shared the award with Wake Forest, and men's soccer.
The ACC Sportsmanship Awards, in their first year of existence, go to squads that have conducted themselves with a high degree of character and good sportsmanship and are determined by voting from the league's teams. The conference presents awards for each of its 25 sponsored sports.
Georgia Tech was the recipient of the first-ever ACC Sportsmanship School of the Year Award after winning four awards among its 17 sports (23.5 percent). The Yellow Jackets won in women's indoor track and field, women's tennis and men's and women's outdoor track and field.
