Advance, N.C. - arden Berry, who will be a freshman on Carolina's men's golf team this fall, qualified for the U.S. Amateur today. erry fired a five-under-par 67 today after posting a one-under 71 on Monday for a six-under 138 total at the U.S. Amateur Qualifier played at Oak Valley Golf Club, a par 72 layout. Berry, from Kinston, N.C., is a two-time champion of the North Carolina Junior Championship, winning the event in 2002 and 2003. The 2004 U.S. Amateur will be played August 16-22 at Winged Foot Golf Club in Mamaroneck, N.Y. Two-rounds of medal play will be followed by match play competition.
